"Asian American theology is about God revealed in Jesus Christ in covenantal relationship with Asian Americans qua Asian Americans. Thus, Asian American theology is about Asian Americans as well, as human covenant partners alongside of God."

In doing Asian American theology, Daniel D. Lee focuses on Asian American identity and its relationship to faith and theology, providing a vocabulary and grammar, and laying out a methodology for Asian American theologies in their ethnic, generational, and regional differences. Lee's framework for Asian American theological contextuality proposes an Asian American quadrilateral of the intersection of Asian heritage, migration experience, American culture, and racialization. This methodology incorporates the need for personal integration and communal journey, especially in the work of Asian American ministry. With interdisciplinary insights from interpersonal neurobiology and trauma theory, he offers a process of integration and reconciliation for Asian American theologies in service of Asian American communities of every kind.

"Daniel Lee writes especially for his Asian American sisters and brothers, church leaders, and fellow theologians and colleagues. Yet I hope many non–Asian Americans read this book, not to eavesdrop on our conversation but to attend to how Doing Asian American Theology testifies through dissonant accents the wondrous work of God among Asian American believers in North American contexts. The result may be a lot of perplexity and even 'What does this mean?' but also new possibilities for a revitalized church and witness anticipating the justice and shalom of the coming divine reign."

Amos Yong, dean of the School of Mission and Theology at Fuller Theological Seminary

"Daniel Lee provides a robust framework that is deeply rooted in the particularity of contextual realities and the universality of truths as revealed to us in Jesus Christ. Doing Asian American Theology adeptly covers the historical, sociocultural, psychological, migratory, generational, and theological dimensions common to all displaced people without dumbing down their complexities. I strongly recommend this book for all diaspora communities in North America and as a must-read for all Asian American pastors, missionaries, ministry leaders, and serious thinkers."

Sam George, catalyst of diasporas for the Lausanne Movement and editor of the Asian Diaspora Christianity series

"Daniel D. Lee skillfully draws on the rich resources of Judeo-Christian thought and the diversity of Asian American cultural experiences to point the way forward in doing Asian American theology. The present volume is a clarion call and road map for constructing contextual theology in service to the Asian American Christian community, and in turn the universal church. All theological practitioners in the United States would benefit greatly from reflecting deeply on Doing Asian American Theology in the effort to bear true and meaningful witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ in their diverse settings in our racialized, American cultural context."

Paul Louis Metzger, professor of theology and culture at Multnomah University and Seminary, coauthor with Brad Harper of Exploring Ecclesiology: An Evangelical and Ecumenical Introduction

"With the current demographic trends in US Christianity and the social reality and challenges related to Asian American Christianity, Daniel Lee offers this timely and essential work. With a profound commitment to lift up the revelation of God in the person of Jesus, this text takes on the additional challenge of framing this revelation in the context of the human covenant with the Asian American community. Daniel Lee is able to give honor and value to the larger redemptive narrative of Jesus while also honoring the story of the Asian American community. The text is both a prophetic call and an intellectual enactment of an invitation to a holy calling."
